Shockoe Slip's White Canvas Gallery takes a look at life as it used to be in the southern U.S. with "Chronicles of the South," a show of paintings by local folk artist Eldridge Bagley. The artist, who grew up on a small Virginia tobacco farm, found himself inspired as a young adult by self-taught artist Grandma Moses. He began painting tobacco farms, church socials, old cars and farmhouses, capturing on canvas a rural way of life fast disappearing from the American landscape. Through August 6 at 111 South 14th Street. Open Tuesday through Saturday, 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Free parking available in the LaDifférence International Furnishings parking lot on Dock and 14th Streets.
