HBO, George Carlin's TV home for more than 30 years, will celebrate the comedian's work over the next few days.

Carlin died of heart failure Sunday at the age of 71. He was probably best known for his "seven words you can't say on television" routine, but his observations about language and everyday life also made him one of the enduring stars of the stand-up world.

Last week he was chosen to receive the Mark Twain Prize for American Humor; he'll now be the first person to be given the award posthumously.

Carlin did 14 comedy specials for HBO that spanned 30 years. Tonight, HBO2 will air "What Am I Doing in New Jersey?" at 8, "Doin' It Again" at 9, "Jammin' in New York" at 10 and "Back in Town" at 11. They will be followed by "You Are All Diseased" at 12:05 a.m. and "It's Bad for Ya" at 1 a.m.

The main HBO channel will air "It's Bad for Ya" at 9 p.m. tomorrow.

This weekend, NBC's "Saturday Night Live" will re-air its premiere episode from 1975, which featured Carlin as host. "SNL" airs from 11:30 p.m. Saturday to 1 a.m.

Remembering Carlin, "Saturday Night Live" creator and executive producer Lorne Michaels said: "You never forget the people who were there at the beginning. George Carlin helped give 'Saturday Night Live' its start as our first host. He was gracious, fearless and, most important of all, funny."

As the first host of the groundbreaking comedy show, Carlin performed three monologues on the program that also introduced audiences to the now-legendary "Not Ready for Prime Time Players" -- Dan Aykroyd, John Belushi, Chevy Chase, Jane Curtin, Garrett Morris, Laraine Newman and Gilda Radner.

The 1975 episode also featured musical guests Janis Ian and Billy Preston as well as a landmark performance by comedian Andy Kaufman.
