There is never a shortage of fun in Hampton Roads' center attraction!  There are more than 100 area attractions within minutes of us.

Hampton, located at the center of the Hampton Roads region which is also home to Virginia Beach, Norfolk, Newport News & Williamsburg, boasts Civil War fortresses, Chesapeake Bay recreation, the Cousteau Society, African American heritage, the past, present and future of aviation at the Virginia Air & Space Center and much more.

New attractions and restaurants are presently opening doors to visitors in the city. The discovery begins at the recently opened Hampton History Museum. Hampton's remarkable heritage as the nation's oldest continuous English-speaking settlement is showcased in the museum's ten permanent galleries.

The Cousteau Society made Hampton, Virginia, its North American headquarters this year, opening an attraction featuring a display of Cousteau Society photography, models of the Alcyone and the Calypso, artifacts of their underwater marine exploration programs and gift shop. The attraction is located on the Downtown Hampton waterfront and is free. Also arriving on the Hampton scene in 2003 is the Virginia Air & Space Center's $8.9 million, 15,000 square foot expansion. A Commercial and Civil Aviation area will feature a full-size section of a Boeing aircraft, a Test Flight Pre-Show Theater, Flying Lab simulator and a "Day in the Life of a Suitcase." The Air Traffic Control area will display a real-time electronic map of North America showing all aircraft in flight.

Year round events, weekend concerts and block parties, family movie nights, concerts presented by The United States Continental Army Band are just a few of the free events visitors experience citywide in Hampton. Wherever they choose to stay in the city, fun is a stone's skip away. The city continues the festivities in Coliseum Central where the Power Plant of Hampton Roads electrifies locals and visitors with high-energy fun. This fall Bass Pro Shops Outdoor World will open its doors at the Power Plant. With interactive displays such as skeet and laser arcades, golf-putting ranges, fly-casting areas and rock-climbing walls, Bass Pro Shops redefines the realm of outdoor retail.

Another Hampton jewel is a harbor tour aboard the Miss Hampton II. Views of Hampton University campus and Fort Monroe, a stop at Fort Wool, and the massive vessels at Naval Station Norfolk are captured in delightful commentary April through October. The Venture Inn II docked near the Cousteau Society offers year-round fishing and harbor touring adventures. And new waterfront addition Ocean Eagle provides twice-daily seasonal fishing excursions.

The clean, glistening waterfront, the Virginia Air & Space Center seemingly poised for flight, the eclectic shops of Phoebus, Downtown and Coliseum Central, the history of Fort Monroe and Hampton University and the serenity of the Chesapeake Bay are features that set Hampton apart.
