Our first tourist in 1608, Captain John Smith, referred to it "as a place heaven and earth never agreed better to frame man's habitation." George Washington simply called it "the Garden of Virginia." Just a short drive from Washington, DC (2-3 hrs), Fredricksburg (1 1/2 hrs), Richmond (1 hr) Pennsylvania (3-4 hrs), and Norfolk (2 hrs), the Northern Neck is rich in history on both the land and the water. Large working farms and historic villages abound with folklore and history. Take the wine trail or antique tour while you enjoy a day or weekend. But most of all, enjoy the timeless appeal and rural charm of Virginia's Northern Neck and its people.

"It's a place where the morning coffee comes with a view of eagles and osprey and where tonight's seafood special is whatever takes your bait. Richmond County is a place where history lives in the bricks and mortar and where traditions are more important than trends." Richmond County is situated on the Northern Neck Peninsula in the eastern portion of Virginia. The Rappahannock River forms the southern boundary of this 192 square mile community. The incorporated town of Warsaw is located at the intersection of U.S. Route 360 and State Route 3. This strategic location makes the town of Warsaw the commercial hub for the Northern Neck and enables easy assess to the major metropolitan areas located in eastern Virginia. Richmond County is 50 miles northeast of the city of Richmond and 120 miles southeast of Washington, D. C.

Richmond County waterfrontWarsaw, the county seat of Richmond County, is a historian's delight. Established as Richmond County Courthouse , the name was changed in 1831 to Warsaw, in sympathy with the Polish struggle for independence. The Richmond County Museum, dedicated to telling the story of Richmond County, is located in the old jail (1872). The Richmond County Courthouse (1748) is one of the finest examples of classical Palladian Style architecture in the state. The third oldest courthouse in Virginia, it continues in regular use as a courthouse.
