Spiritual camp set at Unity of Richmond

Richmond Interfaith Young Singers of Enlightenment will sponsor a weeklong, spiritual summer camp July 28-Aug. 2 at Unity of Richmond, 800 Blanton Ave. Hours are 1-4:30 p.m. daily, with a culminating production on Aug. 2 at 2 p.m. Tuition will be on an offering/donation basis.

Amy Davis and Julie Felcher, executive and artistic directors of The Illuminated Playhouse theater company, will lead the camp for those 8 to 18 years old.

Obama's ex-pastor will be at St. Paul's Baptist

The Rev. Jeremiah Wright, Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama's former pastor, will be part of St. Paul's Baptist Church's Life Empowerment Superconference next week. The church is at 4247 Creighton Road in Henrico County.

The goal of the conference is to engage the community in dialogue about the status of health and how to make healthier, life-changing decisions.

On-site registration will be available. Wright, pastor emeritus of the Trinity United Church of Christ in Chicago, is scheduled to lead a discussion Wednesday at 2 p.m. on being empowered through faith.

The free conference, which continues through Friday, also will include preaching by other ministers, and praise and worship each night at 7 p.m.

St. Stephen's will host two leaders from Oman

Two leaders from the Persian Gulf nation of Oman -- one an American Christian, the other an Omani Muslim -- will talk about relations between Christians and Muslims beginning at 7 p.m. Wednesday at St. Stephen's Episcopal Church, 6000 Grove Ave. in Richmond.

Michael Bos is director of the Al Amana Centre in Muscat, an interfaith center, and Ahmed Al-Mukhaini is adviser on religion and civic life to the ruling Council of Oman. Their appearance is coordinated by the Center for Interfaith Reconciliation at St. Stephen's.

Priest called to service at St. Luke's Anglican

The Rev. John Berry has been called as priest-in-charge by St. Luke's Anglican Church in Goochland County.

Berry was ordained to the Sacred Order of Priests by the Rt. Rev. David Bena, Suffragan Bishop of CANA (the Convocation of Anglicans in North America), on the Fifth Sunday of Easter 2008.

Berry serves under the jurisdiction of Bishop Frank Lyons of the Anglican Church of Bolivia, a constituent member of the worldwide Anglican Communion.

Berry is a bivocational priest with secular employment in the mortgage industry. He resides in Newport News.

A sacramental church in the Anglican tradition, St. Luke's is at 555 River Road West in Manakin-Sabot. The Holy Eucharist is celebrated at 10 a.m. Sundays with a coffee hour afterward.

Governments are focus of metro prayer effort

The churches participating in Metro Richmond at Prayer, a yearlong project, are focusing this month on governments and governing bodies.

This week's prayer is: "We pray for governments and governing bodies of metropolitan Richmond: for the mayor and City Council of Richmond, the city manager, and all city employees; for the boards of supervisors, councils, administrators and employees of Charles City, Goochland, New Kent, Powhatan, Ashland and Hopewell."
