"An Egyptian street peddler was not amused when I declined to purchase one of his trinkets," said Van Manen. "I snapped his photo as the disgruntled merchant walked away from me in search of other tourists who might be more willing to part with their cash." Van Manen, who says travel is her vice, traveled to Egypt in February 2007. She buys only a coffee mug on her trips, she said.
