An early run on locally grown tomatoes left the Hanover Tomato Festival without any of its namesake product to sell by about noon today.

But more bushels were quickly ordered from Jane and Robert Dodd, the eastern Hanover growers who supply the festival.

Festival organizers expect today's event to set a record for tomato sales.

The festival had 130 bushels of tomatoes when it opened this morning, said Greg Sager, director of Hanover County Parks and Recreation department.

That number was the entire amount sold at last year's festival, he said.

The festival continues until 4 p.m. today at Pole Green Park in Mechanicsville.
