A Cumberland County jury found a man not guilty of second-degree murder in the death of a 2-year-old child he was baby-sitting.

But in the trial last week, the jury convicted Anthony E. Wooten of child abuse and neglect and recommended a sentence of five years in prison, a spokeswoman for the clerk's office said.

Circuit Judge Richard Blanton ordered a pre-sentencing report, and sentencing is scheduled for Sept. 24.

The charges against Wooten arose from the May 8, 2007, death of Logan Lang, whom Wooten was babysitting. Wooten regularly baby-sat children in the community.

Wooten was expected to enter a plea agreement during a February court appearance. Instead, he criticized the attorney he had at the time, asked for a jury trial and hired a new attorney.
