A former Caroline County deputy is being held in the Pamunkey Regional Jail on charges of sodomy with a child.

Clyde Charles Davenport, 48, was arrested in Hanover County yesterday morning without incident, said Sgt. Tom Cunningham, spokesman for the Virginia State Police.

On Wednesday, a special agent presented the results of investigation to a Caroline grand jury. Davenport was charged with five counts of forcible sodomy of a child under 13 years of age.

In June, state police received information that Davenport had been improperly involved with a minor between December 1998 and December 2003, Cunningham said.
