Chesterfield County police are trying to confirm the identity of a man whose vehicle crashed and overturned as he fled police.
The driver at the wheel of a 1999 Chrysler Town & Country minivan fled south on Jefferson Davis Highway early yesterday after being pulled over on suspicion of driving under the influence, police say.
Police estimate that the vehicle reached speeds of 70 mph before it overturned as it was driven onto the entrance ramp for southbound state Route 288.
The single-vehicle crash at 2:58 a.m. caused traffic backups on Route 288.
The driver had identification, police say, but they are trying to confirm whether it is accurate. The driver was being treated at VCU Medical Center for non-life-threatening injuries. -- Bill McKelway
