FAIRFAX -- Fairfax County authorities identified a 54-year-old man who died after being shot by police in Oakton as David Michael Przewlocki.

Police said that Saturday about 11:30 p.m., officers responded to a report of an apparent suicidal man at Summit Square Drive. Police found Przewlocki outside his apartment on the sidewalk.

Officers told Przewlocki to put down the gun he was carrying. Police said Przewlocki refused and pointed his gun at the officers, who then fired shots.

Przewlocki was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The two officers involved in the shooting have been put on administrative leave as authorities investigate.
