Roger Newsom, a 44-year-old ophthalmologist from Virginia Beach, tees off today in the final round of the SunTrust State Open with a 2-stroke lead.

Newsom fired a 67 on Saturday at Independence Golf Club in Midlothian to card a three-round total of 204.

Chip Sullivan of Troutville, who started the third round on Saturday tied with Newsom, shot a 69 to stake sole claim to second place. Ted Brown of Richmond and Jimmy Flippen of Danville are tied for third, five strokes behind the leader.

Newsom, Sullivan and Flippen are scheduled to tee off at 10:30 in today's final threesome.
