No, it wasn't your imagination. This June was the second hottest June on record in Richmond.

The average temperature -- high and low -- for the month was 79 degrees, second only to June 1943, when the average was 79.2 degrees.

Average daily high temperatures set a new record at 91.4 degrees, surpassing the previous record of 90 degrees set in June 1980.

Yesterday's high temperature of 89 degrees fell one degree short of tying the 1943 record of 20 days with temperatures reaching 90 degrees or higher in June.

The area already had set a new record for days with temperatures reaching 100 degrees or higher, with three.

The month also was a scorcher to the east in Norfolk, which averaged 79.2 degrees for June, the third highest on record.
