LEESBURG -- Loudoun County authorities are investigating the death of an inmate at the Loudoun County Adult Detention Center.

The Loudoun County Sheriff's Office says 21-year-old Matthew Simpson of Sterling was found dead about 11 a.m. today. Police say he had a known medical history when he was booked into the facility yesterday afternoon.

He was arrested on violation of probation charges related to his conviction for possession of a controlled substance.

The state medical examiner is investigating the cause and manner of his death. The Sheriff's Office is investigating the circumstances that led to his death.
