Player of the year

Brian Ownby, Deep Run -- The three-time All-Metro first-team selection was the leader of leaders on the Wildcats' state Group AAA championship team. Speedy, imaginative, tough and technically sound, Ownby made things happen -- if he didn't touch the ball, it was a bad possession. He scored 19 goals and handed out 15 assists, the last of which set up Bryan Wharton's game-winning goal in the state final. Ownby was the Colonial District and Central Region player of the year. The Virginia High School Coaches Association named him state player of the year. Ownby will continue his career at the University of
Virginia.
