Godwin No. 1's advance to semis
Eagles' boys, girls doubles teams record straight-set victories

Mills Godwin's boys and girls tennis doubles teams played their quarterfinals matches in the state Group AAA tournament early so the seniors could get back to the school's baccalaureate service last night.

The No. 1s were victorious at Old Dominion University. The No. 2s were eliminated.

Kyle Parker and Kevin Calhoun defeated Sam Karr and Bobby Kostinas of Western Branch High (Virginia Beach) 6-2, 6-2. Ian Fraser and Cameron Brawley of Frank Cox (Virginia Beach) upended the Eagles' Kevin McMillen and Edgar Vitkovski 6-2, 6-3.

On the girls side, Katie Blow and Nicole Parker waltzed to a 6-0, 6-1 victory over Erin Godbout, and Stephanie Oswald of Maury. Cathleen Crouch and Meg Kristofak fell to Faith Atiso and Jenny Lee of Frank Cox 7-6 (8-6), 1-6, 6-3.

The remainder of the doubles quarterfinals will be played today as will the singles quarterfinals at Jefferson District Park in Falls Church.

The semifinals are tomorrow.

TUESDAY'S GIRLS SOCCER

Goochland 3, Northumberland 0

Amy Zickafoose scored two goals to lead Goochland past Northumberland in the Group A quarterfinal. Andrea Odemark scored the third goal, and Jessica Richardson made four saves to preserve the Bulldogs' shutout.
