NORFOLK - Richmond took the early lead, but a Mike Costanzo home run gave the Tides the win yesterday in Norfolk.
In the first game of a three-game series, the R-Braves scored three runs in the second inning. Mike Jurich led off with a single to left field and moved to second when Jason Phillips was hit by a pitch. Enrique Cruz tried to move Jurich to third with a bunt, but the Tides got the force-out and Phillips moved to second. A ground ball hit by Carl Loadenthal got Cruz out at second and moved Phillips to third.
Josh Anderson struck out swinging but reached on a wild pitch by Chris Waters. Phillips scored on the play to put the Braves up 1-0, and a two-run double by Derrick Arnold gave Richmond a 3-0 lead.
The Tides made it 3-2 on a two-run single by Oscar Salazar in the third inning and tied it at 3-3 when Costanzo scored from second on a fielding error by Braves second baseman Arnold.
With the score tied in the sixth, Costanzo hit a solo home run to right field to put the Tides up for good, 4-3.
In tonight's game, R-Braves left-hander Damian Moss faces righty Hayden Penn.
