The final launch of a Richmond tradition -- fireworks shows after Richmond Braves games on and around the Fourth of July -- is scheduled for tonight and tomorrow night at The Diamond.
Tonight's Braves-Norfolk Tides game is sold out. Tomorrow's game had about 2,200 general-admission tickets remaining as of yesterday afternoon.
Both games start at 6 p.m. The earlier starting time -- night games usually begin at 7 -- is an effort to avoid a repeat of last year, when a rain-delayed, extra-inning game didn't end until almost 12:30 a.m. The subsequent late-night bangs and booms drew complaints from some residents near The Diamond.
The Braves are relocating to Gwinnett, Ga., after this season, ending the popular double shows, which started in 1999.
General-admission tickets are $11 for adults and $8 for children and seniors. Parking is limited around The Diamond. Limited parking is available at the Department of Motor Vehicles, 2300 West Broad St., where fans can catch shuttle buses starting at 4 p.m. The gates open at 4:30.
