Mark Lawrence Sr. and Mark Lawrence Jr.
Now Mark Lawrence Sr. knows how it feels to be on both sides of the hyphen in a father-son golf championship. Mark was the "son" as he and his dad, Walter Lawrence, won the Tommy Galloway Father-Son Tournament for the first time in 1974. Earlier this month, Lawrence was cast in the role of "father" in combining with his son, 11-year-old Mark Jr., for the most recent Galloway overall crown.

Tennis
For Franklin H. Crawford, the tennis court was a second home. An avid player, Mr. Crawford started the tennis program at Armstrong High School, where he was a teacher for 37 years. Mr. Crawford, who continued playing tennis until being hospitalized in April, died Friday in a Richmond hospital. He was 83.

The Traditions Golf Club at Royal New Kent is one spread out golf course. The Irish links style layout in Providence Forge has more than 12 miles of cart paths. The club has gasoline powered golf carts. Surely, in these times of rising gasoline prices, Royal New Kent is feeling the pinch.
