WOOD'S WINNERS

First race - No. 3 Cobbley's Honor departs maiden special weight company and slides into claiming ranks today, and if he remains calm before entering the starting gate, may be a nice play at 4-1. He was a bit unruly last start, and seems to favor the extra furlongs versus the sprint distance. No. 1 Never Fear and No. 1A Ole Boy make up a 2-for-1 proposition. The former rallied nicely to take third in a turf miler June 23 and should be a player here. No. 7 Brave Toy leaves the Florida circuit and tries Virginia for the first time. The move from dirt to grass, and a healthy drop in class, could combine for a nice result. Use this trio in your exotics and go with No. 3 to win.

Fourth race - No. 5 Sacred Sky just broke his maiden here June 17, and today's class and distance suit him just fine. The Garcia-Pino jockey-trainer battery could connect here. No. 2 Skatin Jake lost by a nose in a dirt sprint here almost three weeks ago and a move back to grass this evening could mean an improvement off that race. He's been "in the money" two-thirds of the time at Colonial. No. 9 Path of Perfection has been anything but perfect, or even close to it, in 2008. There were some nice signs in '07 and he could be a nice surprise if things break his way today. No. 5 is the choice.

Seventh race - No. 8 Stirrup Cup has had some very respectable outings since last December, and trainer Graham Motion has his filly nicely placed here. She fits well and could be a horse for the turf course. No. 5 Blues Approval came close last race, falling a half length shy of victory. A jockey switch to top jock Karamanos could help the cause. No. 2 Dana California has been game recently, but you'll have to ignore a series of misfires at New Kent last summer. The most recent trends count though and this could be a nice upset play. No. 8 Stirrup Cup looks to be the best.
