Collegiate won the 1,600 meter relay, the meet's final event, to overturn Norfolk Academy and win the League of Independent Schools outdoor track championship yesterday at St. Christopher's.

It's the first title since 1995 for the Cougars, who entered the relay trailing the Bulldogs 183-182. Emily Tatum, Hannah Carl, Margaret Upshur and Molly McKeon ran 4:17.8 to Norfolk's 4:22.9 to give Collegiate the Championship.

In the Prep League, perenial champion Fork Union Military breezed to a 63.5-point victory over St. Christopher's. Alieu Sillah of Collegiate, who claimed victories in the 100, 200 and 400 meters, was the meet's MVP.

LAWRENCEVILLE -- Drew Coker tossed a two-hitter and went 2 for 3 and scored twice as Steward won the VCC championship by thumping Kenston Forest 13-1.

Cameron Scales also was 2 for 3 for the Spartans and scored two runs. Logan Melton contributed three RBI and two runs, going 2 for 2, and Alexander Tharp was 1 for 2 with a run and two RBI.

Steward defeated Tidewater Academy 9-1 to reach the final. Brock Shiflett was 2 for 3 with three runs and a home run.
