Player of the year
Lauren Brummell, Hanover - A lot of coaches are happy to see the Hawks star graduate. Brummell can beat you from the circle, at the plate and fielding her position (2B), and no one can twirl a bat better in the on-deck circle. She was an integral part of last year's state championship team and was the pitcher of record in 20 of Hanover's 28 games this year. Brummell repeats as an All-Metro first-teamer and she was the Capital District and Central Region player of the year. She was 19-1 with a .77 ERA and 166 strikeouts. She hit .516 with a whopping 48 hits. The University of Maryland-Baltimore County is her next stop.
Pitcher of the year
Brittany Blankenship, Midlothian - A first-team All-Metro pitcher for the second year in a row, Blankenship has been the Trojans' pitcher for four years. Statistics other than her 16-6 record and one save speak to how well she pitched this season. She allowed a paltry four earned runs for an 0.20 earned run average. She struck out 205 batters in 138 innings. When it came time to hit, she produced 30 hits, a .441 batting average and 13 RBI. She was the Dominion District and Central Region pitcher of the year. She has given a verbal commitment to Wingate (N.C.) University.
