Save This PagePLAYER OF THE YEAR -- Michael Blankenbecler was a sophomore when Thomas Dale made it to the Central Region tournament final and qualified for the state tournament for the first time in 2005. The Knights were runners-up to Clover Hill then, and they were state quarterfinalists in 2006. Thomas Dale went undefeated and won its first region and state crowns this year with Blankenbecler leading the way. He contributed 406 assists, 147 kills, 118 blocks and 26 aces to the Knights' cause this season. He was the Central District, Central Region and Group AAA player of the year as well. Blankenbecler is headed to Virginia Tech, but if he plays volleyball, it will be at the club level.
